Administrative Assistant  
Tribal Resource Mapping Tool

Position Description

The National Center for Victims of Crime, the nation's leading resource and advocacy organization for crime victims and those who serve them, is hiring a Tribal Resource Mapping Tool Administrative Assistant.  The administrative assistant will make a difference in the lives of American Indian and Alaska Native victims of crime and abuse by assisting in building a new online Tribal Resource Mapping Tool to link victims to services and support a new and growing tribal victim program.

The ideal candidate for this position will be enthusiastic about issues facing tribal populations and will primarily gather and maintain accurate information about services included in the resource database.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to victim service providers to gather or update key program data
  • Collect, enter and maintain data in a database that supports an online directory
  • Monitor project email and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
  • Proofread documents and project materials
  • Complete administrative tasks such as copying, faxing, scanning, and mailing
  • Perform basic research on resources, services and issues pertaining to tribal populations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to learn program specific software
  • Strong verbal and written communication and phone skills
  • Strong time management skills with a demonstrated ability to work quickly and independently
  • Ability to think creatively and problem-solve to assist a new and growing program

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with American Indian and Alaska Native populations
  • Previous experience in an administrative position
  • Familiarity with databases and CRMs, specifically Salesforce
  • Experience with or understanding of crime victim services, tribal services, American Indian and Alaska Native populations
  • Experience making cold calls and conducting outreach in a social service setting

To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, candidates for this position must remain stationary or seated for 80% of the time as well as move about inside and outside the office to meet with community partners, conduct community outreach, etc.  Candidates will be required to speak or hear and operate a computer and other office machinery. Program Coordinator

Complex Homicide

Position Description: 
The National Center for Victims of Crime, the nation's leading resource and advocacy organization for crime victims and those who serve them, is hiring a Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator will exercise day-to-day project management for the project Multidisciplinary Responses to Families and Communities in Complex Homicide Cases.

The National Center will be providing technical assistance to seven demonstration sites that serve survivors of complex homicide including intrafamilial homicide, child witness to homicide, DUI/impaired driving and gang related homicides. The goal of this project is to identify promising practices of research- and trauma-informed, practice-focused, victim-centered, culturally competent, multidisciplinary responses that are effective in serving families and communities that have been victimized by complex homicides; and to disseminate resources and lessons learned from this project to allied professionals and the victims’ services field.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a passion for promoting excellence in crime victim response, particularly for ensuring that service providers are well-prepared to meet the needs of homicide survivors and that services are accessible to those disproportionally impacted by homicide including people of color, men, young adults (18-24), and children.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a technical assistance resource; includes synthesizing  information from project partners
  • Establish a system to collect and respond to technical assistance requests; conduct follow-up once requests are fulfilled
  • Participate in project meetings with grantors, staff and all grant partners and coordinate with the demonstration sites, consultants or project subject matter experts
  • Identify resources and conduct research and literature reviews on the needs of homicide survivors as well as emerging best practices
  • Track project metrics required by program grants including ensuring that feedback and evaluation activities are completed
  • Provide direction for scope of programs and anticipate and plan for future needs
  • Maintain and coordinate a network of subject matter experts and grantees
  • Keep current on new and emerging trends in the victim services field, focusing on homicide cases
  • Conduct phone and in-person consultations with partners
  • Participate in online project management sites with partners to track project goals and deliverables (ex. Basecamp or teamwork)
  • Identify opportunities to engage National Center social media
  • Monitor discussions among project participants and identify resources to respond to needs
  • Ensure that materials are posted to the National Center Website and project specific sites as appropriate
  • Represent the National Center programs to external partners
  • Additional responsibilities as directed by the project director  

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in related field
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work independently and creatively
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills

Bilingual Victim Assistance Specialist, DC Victim Hotline

The DC Victim Hotline, operated by the National Center for Victims of Crime, combines a traditional telephone-based helpline with an innovative online chat and web-based information, assistance, and referral service. Victim Assistance Specialists will empower crime victims to regain control, navigate options, and take next steps by providing confidential resources and referrals by phone, chat, and text message.

Individuals who work for the DC Victim Hotline are passionate about serving victims and advocating for victim rights. They engage in continuous learning by keeping up to date with best practices and services available to victims. They believe in creating positive and lasting impact. They support fairness and respect for all people and are committed to empowering others by expanding access to services in underserved communities.

Position Description: As a Victim Assistance Specialist, you will be the strength of the hotline and ensure that victims who contact us are supported, empowered, and given the best resources to move forward. You will be primarily responsible for answering the phone, chat, and text hotline when crime victims reach out for support. You may also research best practices in helpline response and victim assistance programs in the District of Columbia and will be responsible for maintaining the Referral Directory.  You may have the opportunity to collaborate on protocol, training, and external material creation. This role is not neatly packaged or defined; you should expect it to change and evolve during your time at the National Center. This is a full-time, non-exempt, 40 hours per week position with alternative and late evening and weekend hours (9am-5:30pm, 10am-6:30pm, 10:30-7:00pm, 11:30-8pm).

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively field helpline calls, texts and chats on the Victim Services online platform using prepared protocols and a victim centered, strengths based approach.
  • Update and maintain internal and external Victim Services referral directories using Salesforce.
  • Update protocols and resources based on victim needs and feedback with direction from the Deputy Program Manager.
  • Assist program staff and subject matter experts within the National Center in research and creation of new protocols and resources based on needs of victims.
  • Create topical materials to expand the knowledge of internal staff as well as the victim services field.
  • Provide programmatic support to victim services leadership team as well as other National Center staff members as needed.
  • Other duties as needed

Qualifications

  • You are fluent in Spanish and English and are confident communicating in both languages verbally and in writing. You don’t have reservations about communicating in either language in a crisis situation. 
  • You care about providing exceptional service to victims of crime, demonstrating fairness and respect for all people.
  • You are an excellent communicator on the phone, by chat, and in person, and are comfortable speaking to and supporting callers of various forms of victimization and marginalization.
