The Illinois Air National Guard has two distinct missions: State and Federal. The State mission is to provide units trained and equipped to protect life and property, and to preserve peace, order and public safety as directed by the Govenor during a domestic event, homeland security/homeland defense mission. The Federal mission is to deliver sovereign options for the defense of the United States of America and its global interest, to fly and fight in Air, Space, and Cyberspace.
