11/1/2011 - SAN ANTONIO (AFNS) -- Tops in Blue officials are currently seeking additional applicants with specialty talent for the 2012 Air Force Worldwide Talent Search.

"Tops in Blue is not just for singers," said Jeri White, the Tops in Blue production director. "We're also looking for comedians, magicians, jugglers and more. If you're a total force Airman with a specialty talent, you're encouraged to apply."

After an in-depth review of applications, the top 80-100 Airmen will be invited to participate in the talent competition Jan. 9-16, 2012, at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, officials said. Selected participants compete in six categories including male and female vocalist, instrumentalist, dance, musical variety and non-musical variety. The first place winner in each category receives the "Roger" trophy and the second place winner receives the "Wilco" trophy.

Interested applicants may apply online at www.topsinblue.com or mail an application and video to the Air Force Entertainment office by Nov. 15. Applicants may also speak with Staff Sgt. Tommie Crutcher or Staff Sgt. Quentin Thomas, who are both Tops in Blue vocalists, during any Tops in Blue performance location for assistance with videotaping an audition.

Besides performers, Tops in Blue is looking for audio, lighting, staging and videography technicians, officials said. Big rig truck and bus drivers are also encouraged to submit their non-performer application for consideration to attend the Worldwide Talent Search and a place on the upcoming 2012 Tops in Blue tour.

Complettion of 11182011.......Why dont you take your cleverly misplaced anger and stop hiding and venting your frustration behind a blog and go talk to congress about the numerous infractions that have taken place to allow this country to remain in a state of recession versus that of progression and stop taking cheap shots at TIB

It is funny how the emotional blinders of negativity create bias for things that most dont understand. Most of the rants and raves about TIB comes from misplaced anger. Dont blame the TIB for keeping with its tradition's and using them as a scapegoat. There are many other reasons why things are broken in this country and TIB is not one of them. Perhaps you forgot about the family members who are left behind with only a 5050 chance of seeing their loved ones return. Just like my brothers and sister of the Armed Forces they too need support. And for those of you who complain about doing someone else's job suck it up EVERYBODY from the top down to the bottom is trying to do more with less. Why dont you take your cleverly misplaced anger and stop hiding and venting your frustration behind a blog and go talk to congress about the numerous infractions that have taken place to allow this country to remain in a state of recession versus that of progression and stop taking cheap sho

Continued from my truncated Nov 2 post below. I'm quite sure Airmen would prefer to have their morale boosted by real celebrities. The USO and Armed Forces Entertainment do the same job as TIB and we don't have to fund their base pay or cover their day jobs. TIB has a place in our history like all past greats. But its value today is overrated. We get rid of aircraft when they are no longer needed and they take their place in history. It's time for TIB to do the same. Go into history proudly TIB. But stop trying to sell us this 1950's model of military entertainment in 2011

I totally agree with all of the said above and believe we should cut TIB. It is riduculous how the Air Force complains that we do not have any funds to spend each fiscal year. That's because we're spending all of our money on unnecessities. I fully agree we should cut TIB and as for putting individuals out of the service for making one mistake and then having to spend more money on bringing in new recruits and getting their clearances it is also riduculous. It is a waste of our time and resources. We signed up to fight for our country and do what is right for ourselves and families. I did not sign that dotted line to sing and dance. If I wanted to sing and dance I would have been a rock star making millions. The Air Force needs to get their priorities straight as does this country.

After watching the joint chiefs brief Congress yesterday about the impending doom of budget cuts heading down the pike you'd think cutting programs such as TIB would be a slam dunk...instead we're looking at chopping college tuition assistance and perfectly trained NCOs and officers. Sigh

TIB supporters are quick to point out that a majority of funding for TIB comes from corporate sponsors like Coca Cola. While it's true that the logistics for TIB do not come out of the Air Force's pockets one fact remains. THE BASE PAY and ENTITLEMENTS for TIB Airmen is still paid by the Air Force. AND for every VOLUNTEER in Tops in Blue ANOTHER AIRMAN somewhere has to take a deployment he might not have had to take if that singer or drummer had remained in his or her unit doing what the Air Force originally paid them to do. If our budget is in such dire straits this needs to be addressed. Some say that TIB is a valued part of tradition that must be maintained. Tradition for tradition's sake is worthless. TIB supporters love to say they bring morale to the troops. Hogwash. Ask Airmen downrange which performer they appreciated seeing more. Top-name acts like Toby Keith Rapper Pit Bull Dane Cook or the Airmen who are singing to those who got stuck with their deployment I'm quite sure

Stop the insanity We are broke and need to cut the TIB. We need to look at the impact these performers are having on the mission. We are a Military Fighting force not a Song-and-Dance Force. Has anyone read the Airman's Creed What about the line My Mission is to Fly Fight and Win Where is put on a show to entertain the force in the Creed Just an opinion.
