Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury will host its next webinar, “Identifying Concussion/mTBI in Service Members,” March 22, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. (EDT).
According to the Defense Department, 233,425 service members sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) from 2000-2011. Concussion, also known as mild traumatic brain injury, is the most common brain injury sustained by service members but is sometimes more difficult to diagnose than moderate or severe TBI.
The Defense Department recognizes the importance of screening as a valuable tool for early detection of mild TBI. With the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Defense Department has implemented system-wide screening procedures to help identify mild TBI and promote appropriate care for service members and veterans. In this webinar, subject matter experts will review department screening procedures and measures and discuss the impact of mild TBI in service members.
Featured speakers are:
- Dr. David L. Brody, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Mo., assistant professor of neurology
- Lt. Tracie B. Lattimore, U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, TBI Programs, deputy director
