PEACHTREE CITY, GA — August 7, 2012 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Senior Civilian and Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today Ms. Linda Shelton has been named principal of Jackson Elementary School, at Fort Campbell, KY., in the Kentucky District.

Ms. Shelton is currently an assistant principal at Ramey School, aboard Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen, Puerto Rico, in the New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District. Prior to joining DoDEA, she taught in the American School of Guatemala City, Guatemala; for the Government of Guam; the Gulf Port, Miss. schools, and in Millington, TN., schools. Upon joining DoDEA, she taught every grade except fifth, as well as reading recovery and gifted/talented in Japan, in Italy at both Sigonella and Vicenza, and England. She was an Instructional Systems Specialist (ISS) for Early Childhood, Math and Science in the DoDDS-Isles District.

“Ms. Shelton brings a wealth of experience to Jackson Elementary School,” said Dr. Frank Calvano, Kentucky District Superintendent. “Her leadership skills, instructional knowledge and commitment to the students and their families will be an asset to the school and the Fort Campbell community.”

Originally from Minnesota, Ms. Shelton earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Secondary Education from the University of Minnesota; a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education from Mankato State University; her Specialist Degree in Gifted/Talented Education from Purdue University; and her Master’s of Arts degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix.

Ms. Shelton has four grown children, two sons and two daughters.
