8/7/2008 - LINCOLN, Neb. -- -- The 155th Air Refueling Wing in Lincoln, Neb., was awarded its ninth Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for its service from May 1, 2005 through April 30, 2007.

This is the third Outstanding Unit Award for this unit while operating the KC-135R Stratotanker as its primary aircraft.

The unit distinguished itself in support of multiple expeditionary combat support deployments overseas including Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Noble Eagle, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

While supporting these contingencies the 155th Air Refueling Wing completed unit inspections with above average ratings and completed several thousand flying hours with great safety.

The award, created in 1954, is given by the secretary of the Air Force to active duty, guard and reserve units whose performance of "exceptionally meritorious service, accomplishment of a specific outstanding achievement of national or international significance, combat operations against an armed enemy of the United States, or military operations involving conflict with or exposure to hostile actions by opposing foreign force."
