Europe Student Athletics

First official day for Fall Sports is August 15, 2011



Fall sports in all DoDDS-E schools and the participating International Schools may officially begin practice on the 23rd of August 2010. Schools may offer the following sports during the fall season: boys and girls cross country; boys and girls golf; boys and girls tennis; girls volleyball; boys volleyball (Mediterranean district schools only), cheer and football. Students and parents interested in finding out more information about the fall sports program in their local school should contact the school administration.


Cross Country

Cross Country

Students compete on a 5 kilometer course at various sites throughout the season.  Div III schools must have a 4 member team (male and female) to compete in the team championship and D I and II schools must have a 5 member team to compete for the Divisional Team Championships at the European Championships.  All team members and runners who meet a qualifying time in schools where there are not enough students to compete for a team title will also compete for individual honors at the Championships.

All schools offering a cross country program will begin regular season competition on September 17, 2011.  The European Team and Individual Championships are tentatively scheduled for Heidelberg, Germany on October 29, 2011.


Football

Twenty-three DoDDS-E high schools and the International School of Brussels will offer football during the 2010 season. Filton Academy has been approved as a league member and will be joining the Division I Conference, expanding that conference from seven schools to eight. All schools will play a regular season comprised of games with conference opponents leading into the play-offs scheduled to begin in late October. The Super Six Championships will be held in Baumholder, Germany on 6 November 2010. The top two teams in each Division will face off to determine the 2010 Divisional Champions.

Golf

Golf

Golfers will participate in four regular season meets in an effort to meet a qualifying score making them eligible to participate in the European Championship. The lowest qualifying score will be dropped and then the other three scores will be averaged to arrive at a qualifying score. DoDDS-E uses the Stableford system of scoring for both regular season matches and the championships. Each player will score as follows:

  • 1 point for a double bogey
  • 4 points for a birdie
  • 2 points for a bogey
  • 6 points for an eagle or ace
  • 3 points for a par

**After a double bogey, players will pick up their ball and continue to the next hole.

The regular season will begin the week of 15 September 2011 with the following schools competing:  Bamberg, Baumholder, Bitburg, Heidelberg, Kaiserslautern, Lakenheath, Patch, Rota, Ramstein, Vilseck and Wiesbaden.  The European Championships will be held on October 13 and 14, 2011 and are tentatively scheduled to be held at the Heidelberg Golf Club.

Tennis

Schools are scheduled to compete within their region during the regular season with win/loss records from the these meets used to determine seeds for the championships.  Each school may enter one male and one female player in the singles competition and one male and one female doubles teams in the European Championships.  During the regular season the #1 players from each team will be playing a best of 3 sets, while the remaining team members (up to a total of 6) will play an 8 game pro-set.

The European Championships will be held, October 27-29, 2011 in Wiesbaden, Germany.  Players will be competing for individual and team titles.



Volleyball

During the regular season, varsity teams play a best of 5 set match against regional opponents and junior varsity teams will play a best of 3 set match.   Teams will open the season with a “jamboree” weekend and will then play a six-week regular season schedule followed by the post season championships where teams will compete within their division for team titles.

The 2011 season will commence with the “jamboree” weekend on 17 September.  All twenty-seven DoDDS-E high schools and five International Schools will participate in the European Championships scheduled for the Kaiserslautern Military Community, November 3-5, 2011.
