WhipCast gives users quick access to news and information from inside Congress, including push notifications from the floor of the House of Representatives (on bills being debated, votes being taken, and more). Other items featured in WhipCast include press releases from Speaker Boehner and other GOP leaders, policy briefs on bills being considered in the House, and videos from House Republicans.

This new app is the latest in a string of digital innovations from the Republican-led House. So far this year, the House has begun streaming live video from the floor across all mobile devices and provided real-time access to data on legislative activity. Similarly, Speaker Boehner’s speeches, press conferences, and other events are now being streamed online and on mobile phones. And the House is moving forward on making all legislative data accessible in machine-readable formats like XML.

Lawmakers are also making extensive use of publicly available digital tools. For example, Speaker Boehner and Leader Cantor both released Facebook tabs highlighting the Republican Plan for America’s Job Creators. Skype and Oovoo are now available for all representatives to connect with constituents. And the use of Twitter by House Republicans was the subject of a New York Times article on the GOP’s “very rapid response team.”
