The office is responsible for media relations, internal information programs and communication with students, parents, teachers, school administrators and the public.
Experienced staff developer returns to the Pacific as Assistant Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

Senior Civilian Leader for Department of Defense Education Activity Pacific schools Martha Brown announced today the selection of Stan Caldwell as the DoDEA Pacific Assistant Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. A career educator with extensive knowledge of staff development and school improvement, Caldwell will provide curriculum, instructional, assessment, and student-support services leadership for all 49 DoDEA Pacific schools.
“Stan has served successfully at every level—from the classroom to the boardroom—and offers the full spectrum of experience needed to support our schools,” said Brown, “he is a superb addition to the DoDEA Pacific leadership team.” As the Assistant Deputy Director for CIA, Caldwell will primarily be responsible for supervision of the Instruction Systems Specialists who manage several curricula and student support areas such as Advanced Placement, special education, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), fine arts and music, Career Technical Education (CTE) including STEM-based initiatives (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), guidance counseling and nursing, physical education, school improvement, etc. Caldwell will report to DoDEA Pacific Deputy Director for CIA Dr. Joyce Lutrey.
In the coming weeks, Caldwell will transition to the DoDEA Pacific area office located in Okinawa, Japan from his current position as principal of Ramstein Intermediate School in Germany where he has served since 2008. Previous assignments include principal of Alconbury Elementary School and assistant principal of Ramstein Elementary School.
Caldwell returns to Okinawa, Japan where he once taught music and held staff development and school improvement liaison positions at the DoDEA Okinawa District Superintendent’s Office.
He began his career in education as a teacher in Oklahoma before joining DoDEA in 1985 for several teaching assignments in the Philippines, Yokosuka and Okinawa, Japan, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
Caldwell earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla. He has authored articles for academic journals, presented at regional and national conferences, and is widely recognized as an expert in school accreditation and improvement.
An accomplished musician having studied piano since childhood, Caldwell’s other interests include cooking, reading, and traveling. Caldwell is married with two teenage children.

Throughout the decades, DoD schools evolved to become a comprehensive and high-performing K-12 school system solely dedicated to educating the children of America’s heroes. Today, DoDEA Pacific’s 49 schools serve over 23,500 children of U.S. military and eligible DoD civilian personnel families stationed throughout the Pacific theater.
