PEACHTREE CITY, GA — March 30, 2012 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Acting Director and Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba,) announced today that Ms. Susan Ransom has been named Principal of Burrows Elementary School, at Quantico Marine Corps Base, Virginia, in the DDESS New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District. She will assume her new position April 23, 2012.

Ms. Ransom comes to DDESS from the Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Europe (DoDDS-Europe), in the Kaiserslautern (Germany) District where she served as principal of Landstuhl Elementary/Middle School.  She joined DoDEA in 1991 as a 5th and 6th grade math and science teacher in Iceland. In 1993, she transferred to Sigonella Elementary School, in the Mediterranean District and taught 3rd and 5th grades.

 In 2000, Ms. Ransom was awarded a sabbatical and earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from Boise State University. She returned to DoDDS-Europe in Vicenza, Italy, as the Information Specialist and part-time Educational Technologist for the high school. She began her administrative career in 2004, as assistant principal of Incirlik High School, Turkey. Prior to coming to DoDEA, Ms. Ransom held a variety of teaching positions with the state of Idaho.

“Ms. Ransom brings a wealth of experience as an educator, facilitator and administrator to the role of principal. She has a history of effective partnering and collaboration with the military community,” said Mr. Michael Gould, New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District Superintendent. “Her passion for the current emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) will fold nicely into our district initiatives.”
