The Federal Trade Commission will host a conference on April 10-12, 2007, to explore a range of energy issues of importance to American consumers and the U.S. and global economies. The three-day conference, "Energy Markets in the 21st Century: Competition Policy in Perspective," will bring together leading experts from the government, the energy industry, consumer groups, and the academic community. These experts will participate in panels that will examine such topics as the relationship between market forces and government policy in energy markets; the dependence of the U.S. transportation sector on petroleum; the effects of electric power industry restructuring on competition and consumers; what energy producers and consumers may expect in the way of technological developments in the industry; the security of U.S. energy supplies; and the Government’s role in maintaining competition and protecting energy consumers. The conference will be free and open to the public.
