2005 Housing Characteristics Tables 2005 Consumption & Expenditures Tables

Detailed Consumption and Expenditures (C&E) tables containing Space Heating, Air-Conditioning, Water Heating, and Appliance residential energy data are now available.  Also note that C&E Summary Statistics tables have been revised to reflect updated natural gas consumption and square footage data.

The Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS) is a national area-probability sample survey that collects energy-related data for occupied primary housing units. First conducted in 1978, the 2005 version is the 12th RECS.  The survey collected data from 4,381 households in housing units statistically selected to represent the 111.1 million housing units in the United States. Data were obtained from residential energy suppliers for each unit in the sample to produce the Consumption & Expenditures data.

The Consumption & Expenditures tables include summary data on total residential consumption and expenditures in the U.S., as well as energy intensity statistics.  Detailed tables related to fuels used in the residential sector and various end-uses are also available. Each table includes data by housing unit and household characteristics, such as Census region and income.

A table of Relative Standard Errors (RSEs) is included as a worksheet tab in each Excel table. (What is an RSE?)
