- Suggestions for Future Research
One evaluation of the VPP was identified and was rated at a high level of methodological rigor. Using a quasi-experimental design featuring a comparison group that was matched to the treatment group on a variety of characteristics, the researchers found that the recidivism rates of those who participated in the VPP did not significantly differ from those of comparison group members.
Because the study provided no information on program implementation, no recommendations for practice can be drawn from this study.
Given that little can be determined from a single study, additional research—particularly featuring a comparison group that is better matched to the treatment group on motivation for programming—would be helpful in determining whether the VPP or similar programs significantly impact participant outcomes.
