Washington, Feb 9, 2012 -

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen announced that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will keep the Leisure World Plaza Post Office open. This Post Office had been on the list of branches under review for possible closure.  Congressman Van Hollen strongly opposed closing this branch, which is located in Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District and serves thousands of his constituents, and repeatedly voiced those concerns to the USPS.

“Today’s announcement is welcome news, and I’m pleased the USPS heard the concerns of local residents and will be keeping the Leisure World Plaza Post Office open,” said Congressman Van Hollen.  “This branch is an integral part of our community, serving 10,000 senior citizens in addition to countless others in the area.  It was not in the public interest to close this Post Office, and I applaud the USPS’s decision.”
