Resources

There are numerous resources available to service members and their families which can provide information on financial planning, budgeting and money management, and retirement planning.

Personal Financial Management Program (PFMP)

The PFMP, available on all military installations, provides classes, one-on-one counseling sessions, and additional information designed to educate service members and their families about consumer rights and to help them achieve financial stability.  Maps, directions, and contact information for PFMP offices can be found on MilitaryINSTALLATIONS under the program/service titled "Personal Financial Management Services."

Service members can also speak with the Command Financial Specialist within the unit or a Personal Financial Management Counselor on the installation.  Both of these individuals can provide basic financial counseling to service members and help them access resources they need to develop sound personal financial management skills.

Access to Credit Reports

The law requires the major nationwide consumer reporting companies - Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion - to provide, upon request, a free copy of a credit report each year.  Service members or their family members can visit Annual Credit Report.com or call 1-877-322-8228, a service created by these three companies, to order their free credit report each year.  A request can also be submitted through the mail at the following address:  Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105283, Atlanta, GA 30348-5283.
