Who is eligible to use the Personal Financial Management Program (PFMP)?

Per Department of Defense (DoD) policy, the branches of service are required to make personal financial management programs, financial planning, and financial counseling services available to service members and their families.  Although not specifically stated in policy, DoD civilians and military retirees may also take advantage of the services offered through PFMP offices on installations.

Who is eligible to receive financial counseling through Military OneSource and the Military and Family Life Consultants (MFLC) Program?

All service members (active, Reserve, and National Guard), DoD civilian personnel designated as Civilian Expeditionary Workforce members, and their family members may schedule and receive financial counseling services through Military OneSource or the MFLC Program.

How much does this financial training and counseling cost?

Although financial planning services can be very expensive in the civilian world, the services offered through PFMP offices, Military OneSource, and the MFLC Program are free of charge.  Service members, DoD civilian personnel designated as Civilian Expeditionary Workforce members, and their family members seeking financial counseling through Military OneSource or the MFLC program may receive up to twelve counseling sessions per issue. For those unable to attend face-to-face counseling, Military OneSource arranges telephone and online consultations.
