 My first deployment: Staff Sgt. John Loughran
Since 1990, Staff Sgt. John Loughran, a native of Amherst, N.Y., and member of the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) support operations watercraft section, has deployed six times gaining experience on land, on sea and in the air. He served as a Marine during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Gothic Serpent and as an Army Reservist during Operation Iraqi Freedom and now Operation Enduring Freedom.

316th kicks off CFC
The 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) is set to begin its Combined Federal Campaign fundraising event at Camp Arifjan, Sept. 21. This will mark over 50 years of partnership between military forces and the CFC.

316th soldiers recognize Suicide Prevention Month
The Army has designated September as Suicide Prevention Month and joins the nation in observing National Suicide Prevention Week, Sept. 10-14, and World Suicide Prevention Day, Sept. 10.
Retired Maj. Gen. Mark A. Graham, who lost a son to suicide, said it’s important to be safe, be smart and be compassionate. It’s a sign of strength to get help, not a weakness. “Do not wait, let’s stop suicide and prevent it before it happens,” he added.

 316th Manas Team Beats Deadline
The number of U.S. Troops in the Afghanistan now stands at 68,000, Secretary of State Leon E. Panetta told reporters. The troop count is down from the peak of 101,000 U.S. forces last year and marks the end of a critical phase in President Barack Obama’s war strategy.
