Indiana Association of Cities and Towns Honors Kokomo with its Community Achievement Award
The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns is again heaping recognition on Kokomo, awarding the city with the association’s 2012 Community Achievement Award. Kokomo also won the Community Achievement Award in 2010.
“Our focus on improving quality of life and creating a healthier and livable community is attracting businesses and residents,” Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight said, citing two businesses which have outgrown the city’s business incubator, Inventrek.
“We have recently seen two small firms expand from Inventrek to their own locations. We attribute the growth to Kokomo being a great place to live and work,” he said.
Whiting Mayor and IACT President Joseph Stahura said the award is well-deserved.“In a time when budgets are tight Kokomo has decided to make itself a more attractive, livable community which has poised them to grow their economy,” Stahura said.
Beginning 12:00 AM, January 1, 2013, City of Kokomo residents living in the recentlyannexed areas of Harrison Township will receive fire protection services from the Kokomo Fire Department (KFD).
Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight will host the Mayor’s Prayer and Action Breakfast beginning at 6:30 a.m., Monday, January 07, 2013 at the United Autoworkers Local 685 Union Hall, 929 E. Hoffer St.
Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight has been invited to participate in the Indiana Vision 2025 Statewide Summit sponsored by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Goodnight will join other thought leaders on Thursday, December 6th in Indianapolis, for a day focused on furthering Indiana’s efforts to be a global leader in innovation and economic opportunity where enterprises and citizens prosper.
Nearly 90 years since it left town, a classic Kokomo, Indiana-built automobile has returned home through the generous donation of a New Hampshire automobile collector.
The 1923 Apperson sedan was bestowed to the City of Kokomo through the estate of Stanley Hamel of New Hampshire. Mr. Hamel purchased the automobile in the 1950s for $400, and he spent several years restoring it. Over the years, he made several trips to the Elwood Haynes Museum, and premade arrangements in his will to ensure that the Apperson automobile would return to Kokomo upon his passing.
Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight will announce the winner of the annual Mayor’s Christmas Card Contest on Friday, December 7th at 10:00 a.m., in City Hall Council Chambers.
