Technology development and adoption in the marketplace are cooperative enterprises in which federal, state, and local governments, as well as private industry, all play roles.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) collaborates with the states on several fronts to develop and encourage the adoption of cost-effective renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

DOE funding opportunities for state programs are listed here and are intended only for state agencies, not for individuals or companies. If you are an inventor and wish to apply for a grant from DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) to further develop an energy-saving concept or technology, see EERE's Inventions and Innovations.

DOE Grant Funding

DOE offers grants to the states to provide weatherization services to low-income families and to manage their renewable energy and energy efficiency programs. These two activities account for a relatively large amount of funding relative to EERE's overall budget.

Collaborative R&D

EERE collaborates with states on research and development projects to advance renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

State Incentives

Links to state incentives and tax breaks for renewable energy technologies and alternative fuel vehicles are listed here.
