A fourth experimental hall, known as Hall D, is currently under construction and is scheduled to begin experiments in 2015.
The Hall D project consists of an extension to the accelerator tunnel to house a new beam transport line, a dedicated magnet to tag photons created in beam-target interactions, a counting house, cryogenics plant and service buildings.
When it is completed, Hall D will make it possible for scientists to study what are known as exotic mesons or hybrids.
