The City of Sebastian has decided on the following updated openings to our Parks and Facilities:

1)      All City of Sebastian playgrounds will open to the public on Saturday, June 13^th.

2)      The Sebastian Splash Pad will open to the public on Saturday, June 13^th.

3)      The Sebastian Skate Park will open to the public on Saturday, June 13^th. Temporary operating hours for the skate park will now be 8am to Sunset.

We ask that everyone continue to follow all CDC Guidelines practicing social distancing. Please wash your hands frequently with soap or use hand sanitizer.  

The City of Sebastian will be open for scheduled business meetings as well as appointments effective Monday, June 8, 2020.  However, the City will be following the CDC guidelines.   We are encouraging those that want to access City Hall to call ahead and schedule an appointment with the appropriate department personnel. 

If you think you may be sick or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home and check with the Department personnel for ways to conduct your business electronically.

Before you enter the building, please ask yourself the following “Yes or No” questions:

• In the last 14 days, have you traveled to, in or from an area with widespread or ongoing community spread of COVID-19 (Tri-state area – New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut; Louisiana), or had close contact with anyone who traveled to, in or from such areas, including (China, South Korea, Italy, Iran) or other countries listed as “Level 2” of “Level 3” by the Centers for Disease Control? 

• Have you had contact with or cared for anyone who has a confirmed or possible case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days? 

• Are you currently experiencing any of the symptoms for COVID-19 (Mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of fever, cough, increase in temperature (100.4 degrees +), Chills, Repeated shaking with chills, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore Throat, or New loss of taste or smell)?

If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, you must not access City Hall for a period of at least 14 days. 

In order to protect the health and safety of all who visit the City offices, please consider the following guidelines when meeting with City staff:

• Facemasks are required to enter City Hall.  Please do not enter without wearing a facemask.
• Practice social distancing by maintaining a minimum distance of 6 feet from the nearest person while in the building
• Limit the number of people participating in any appointment to only those necessary for the issue at hand
• Wash your hands before and after your appointment
• Temperatures will be taken with a no-contact thermometer

The City of Sebastian has decided on the following openings and updates to our Parks and Facilities based on the Governor’s newest Executive Order on Phase 2:

1)      The Art Center will open on Friday, June 5^th. All groups should still observe social distancing and follow all CDC guidelines. No gatherings of more than 50 people are allowed.

2)      The Yacht Club will open on Monday, June 8^th. All groups should still observe social distancing and follow all CDC guidelines. No gatherings of more than 50 people are allowed.

3)      The City’s Tennis and Pickleball Facilities will now allow doubles play beginning on Monday, June 8^th. All participants should still follow social distancing and follow all CDC guidelines.

The Community Center opened for classes on June 1^st with a maximum capacity in the classes of 15 participants. The facility has a layout to provide 6 feet around all participants to meet this maximum capacity. Participants should bring their own equipment as no City equipment will be provided. We suggest that you follow all CDC guidelines and wear a mask. The facility will only be open for the scheduled classes that are instructed by Kathy Falzone at this time. 4th of July festival cancellation

The 4^th of July parade, festival and fireworks at Riverview Park have all been cancelled for this year. We have tentatively set a date to have the parade, festival and fireworks for Saturday, September 5^th around Labor Day.

The City of Sebastian Pickleball and Tennis Facilities shall reopen on Friday, May 1^st at 8:00am provided that CDC Guidelines, including all social distancing guidelines, are adhered to.  

In addition, the following restrictions shall apply:

1)      Singles play only is permitted at this time.  

2)      No congregating on the court or sidelines is permitted.

Additionally the City recommends the following based on recommendations from the USTA and USAPA (See link for USTA Player Tips and Recommendations https://www.usta.com/en/home/stay-current/national/usta-statement-on-safety-of-playing-tennis-during-the-covid-19-v.html):

1)      Players should stay on their side of the court and avoid changing ends. Remain apart from other players when taking a break.

2)      Arrange to play only with family members or others who live in your household or with individuals who are considered to be low risk.

3)      Use your racquet/foot to pick up balls and hit them to your opponent. Avoid using your hands to pick up the balls.

4)      If a ball from another court comes to you, send it back with a kick or your racquet.

5)      After play, leave the court and facility as soon as possible. Wash your hands thoroughly or use hand sanitizer.

6)      Clean and wipe down your equipment, including racquets and water bottles. Do not share any equipment with another player.

7)      Consider wearing face masks and/or gloves.

Friendship Park will not charge fees to play during this time, however we will begin to accept court reservations beginning on Friday.

The City of Sebastian is asking that you follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations that people wear cloth or fabric face coverings, which can be made at home, when entering public spaces such as grocery stores and public areas. This virus is transmitted by droplets and close contact. Droplets play a very important role, this why you should wear a mask, because when you speak, there are always droplets coming out of your mouth.

The coverings are mainly to prevent those people who have the virus — and might not know it — from spreading the infection to others. The use of cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure. U.S. health authorities have long maintained that face masks should be reserved only for medical professionals and patients suffering from COVID-19, the deadly disease caused by the coronavirus. The CDC had based this recommendation on the fact that such coverings offer little protection for wearers, and the need to conserve the country's sparse supplies of personal protective equipment.

PUBLIC NOTICE: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, City Hall and all other city facilities are closed to the public effective noon March 20, 2020 – until further notice. Indian River County had its first case reported last night, it is critical that each of us do our part to reduce community spread in order to help slow the transmission of the virus to allow our medical community the time it needs to prepare.

During this pandemic we all have the responsibility to social distance — which means limiting all in-person social interactions as much as possible. Experts agree that staying physically apart is critical if we want to reduce the strain on our health care system and slow the spread of this virus to save lives. Beginning March 20, 2020 City departments are asking members of the public to conduct business remotely. Please use email or phones for questions and correspondence.

Emailing is the most effective way to communicate during this time and our staff will respond to your questions as soon as possible.

Coronavirus Information

The world health community continues to monitor closely the emergence of the SARS-COV-2 virus and the disease it causes, named "coronavirus disease 2019" (COVID-19). At this time, no one knows the extent of this outbreak, how long it may reside or what areas may be affected. Given this uncertainty, and the fact that the seasonal influenza (flu) virus is also widespread, we are taking proactive steps to address a number of City concerns. We encourage practices protecting the health of the public and for everyone to cooperate in taking steps to reduce the transmission of communicable diseases:

• Wash your hands frequently with warm, soapy water for at least 20 seconds. (The time it takes to sing the Birthday Song twice.)
• If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty;
• Cover your mouth with tissues whenever you sneeze, and discard used tissues in the trash.
• Cough into your elbow.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick with respiratory symptoms.
• Clean frequently touched surfaces.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth if at all possible.
• Do not shake hands.
