Can I fly free on military aircraft (Space A travel)?
Yes. Free travel is permitted for active Guardsmen, when seats are available, to locations throughout the country.
How long do I have to serve in the Air National Guard before I am eligible for retirement?
You must complete 20 years of total military service (active duty and/or Guard) to be eligible for retirement.
Will I lose my full-time job while serving in the Air National Guard?
No. The law protects Air Guard members from discriminatory employer practices.
Can I receive a bonus or student loan repayment when I join?
The eligibility for receiving an enlistment bonus or student loan repayment is determined by the Local Unit. The career fields that receive these incentives are based on unit needs and may not be the same in each unit. The recruiter maintains a list of eligible careers and would be best qualified to explain what careers offer these incentives at their location.
Does the Air Guard have a buddy program?
No, but Air Guard recruiters will work very hard to try and get you and your "buddy" into basic training together. A lot will depend on the career field you both select to go into.
