FAQ

How do I get started on AES or AESDirect?

To get started in AES or AESDirect you can do one of the following:

  • You may file Shipper Export Declaration (SED) for yourself via the free Internet system called AESDirect. To obtain more information on how to register for AESDirect, please go to http://www.aesdirect.gov/register_help.html.
  • You can file via AES certified software. If you choose to use AES certified software you must first file a Letter of Intent.
  • You may also authorize an agent (such as your freight forwarder or air courier) to file electronic export information on your behalf. You do not need to register or submit a letter of intent if you authorize your agent to file on your behalf; but you must provide them with the proper authorization to file on your behalf.
