JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164.  This position may be used for the purpose of filling multiple positions throughout the school year. Temporary positions may be converted to permanent without further competition, but conversion is not guaranteed.

Performs a variety of cleaning tasks which require physical effort and involve the use of hand and/or powered cleaning equipment. Specific instructions are provided on when and what to clean and the methods to use.

This is an Excepted Service Position.

This is a temporary, less than one year, position.

DUTIES:

Independently performs the full range of cleaning duties in an assigned building or other area. Typical tasks include:  Cleans and maintains various floor, wall, carpet, and ceiling surfaces. Removes stains from variety of surfaces.  Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, including replacing all needed supplies.  Operates cleaning equipment and tools, adjust and performs minor maintenance on such equipment.  Occasionally works on ladders and scaffolds to clean ceiling fixtures, wash walls, replace light bulbs, and perform similar tasks.  Set up and take down cafeteria tables, chairs and trash cans.  Clean cafeteria eating areas before, during and after breakfast and lunch periods (clean tables, empty trash, clean floors, etc).  Also sets up and take down furniture and AV equipment for special events and assemblies.  Keeps supervisor informed on condition of equipment and stock level of supplies.  Secures entire facility in the absence of the supervisor.

Must show sufficient experience performing the full range of cleaning duties of the position with little or no supervision using a variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions.  Also, experience that demonstrates the ability to handle, control, clean and adjust powered cleaning equipment and ability to remove different kinds of stains from a wide variety of surfaces.
Physical ability to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and frequently move objects weighing up to 40 pounds with assistance of dollies or loading carts. Selected Candidate must pass a pre-employment physical prior to entering into the position.
Working Conditions:  Usually works indoors in areas which are adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated.  Exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritation from strong cleaning solutions.  Care must be taken to avoid serious injury when working on ladders and scaffolds or when using heavy powered equipment.
Part-time or unpaid experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.


Must meet OPM minimum qualification standards to be considered for this position.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
