The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) currently has an opening for a Social Worker.  This position is located in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP)), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness and Force Management (ASD(R&FM)), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)).  MC&FP programs include all issues impacting the military service member and family, including but not limited to family support, family assistance 1-800 assistance program and other deployment programs, family advocacy, children and youth development, fitness and recreation, educational opportunities, relocation programs, and NAF Resale Policy and Military Exchanges.

MAJOR DUTIES:

·         The incumbent of this position is a Social Worker with responsibility in the planning, direction, operation, control, and coordination of policies addressing family violence and child abuse and neglect.

·         Assists in governing a broad range of programs and services addressing the needs and challenges of service members and their families with respect to family violence, especially domestic abuse and child abuse and neglect.

·         Identifies and assists in developing a variety of appropriate prevention programs, services, and training responsive to domestic abuse and child abuse/neglect among service members and their families.

·         Develops strategies for resolution of systemic and individual problems; identifies deficiencies in existing policies and programs, and justifies, defends, and negotiates changes.

·         Serves as an expert behavioral health advisor and consultant on FAP programs with a specific focus on policy, prevention, and strategic communication planning for current and new initiatives.

·         Serves as a subject matter expert on the dynamics of abuse, treatment and prevention modalities, and psycho educational approaches to assist individuals and families.

·         Deals with significant and complex issues to respond to the needs of service members and their families by increasing connections with America’s communities, Military OneSource, and other programs, both on and off military installations.

In accordance with the Qualifications Standards for General Schedule (GS) Positions under the General Coverage for Professional and Scientific Positions, the following is being provided to you. This position requires 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 (for the GS-13 position) 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 (for the GS-14 position). You must meet time-in-grade  requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specifically you will be evaluated on the following experience, please address these in your resume: Expert experience in the Family Advocacy Program and an understanding of the military family programs and health care system.  Planning, direction, operation, control, and coordination of programs and policies addressing family violence especially domestic abuse.  Developing a variety of appropriate prevention programs, services, and training responsive to domestic abuse and child abuse and neglect among service members and their families. 
 
1. Expert knowledge/experience in support programs for service members and their families
2. Professional knowledge of clinical social work theories, concept, and clinical supervison
3. Expert knowledge/experirence in dealing with policies, programs, laws and regulations
4. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to upper level management and senior officials.


Applicants must meet the BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS as follows: Individual Occupational Requirements

Basic Requirements:

Masters Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Substitution of Education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
