Overview

The Department of Defense (DoD) provides financial assistance to eligible local education agencies (LEAs) that benefit military dependent students when funds are appropriated for these purposes.

The Department of Education (ED) manages the overall Federal Impact Aid Program and disburses congressionally appropriated funds to LEAs that are impacted by federal properties such as land owned by the Department of Defense, Indian reservations, and public housing.

DoD administers two Impact Aid programs where initial eligibility is determined by data submitted by LEAs to ED on applications for the Federal Impact Aid program. DoD programs are the DoD Supplement to Impact AidDoD Impact Aid for Children with Severe Disabilities, and the DoD Impact Aid for Large Scale Rebasing Program.
