Interior Announces $43 Million Agreement for Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project - Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly have announced a $43 million financial assistance agreement for design and construction of a portion of the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project. The leaders broke ground in June on the historic project, which, when completed, will have the capacity to deliver clean running water to a potential future population of approximately 250,000. Crow Tribe Irrigation Rehabilitation Groundbreaking - Dignitaries participated in a groundbreaking for the rehabilitation of the Crow Tribal Irrigation System on September 24. The Reno Diversion shown in the photo will be among the first of more than 2,300 structures to be replaced. Many of the irrigation features are more than 100 years old. The rehabilitation will be coordinated by the Crow Tribe Water Resources Office in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation. More...
Reclamation PIT Tagging at Clear Lake - On September 19, working with the U.S. Geological Survey on Clear Lake Reservoir, Reclamation's Darin Taylor and Rachel Mitchell captured more than 60 Lost River and shortnose suckers – species listed as endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act. The fish were tagged with Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tags. With the PIT tags, Reclamation can track fish movements and health and gain overall understanding about the fish species. More...
Youth Conservation Corps Project at Big Bend Conservation Area -The Youth Conservation Corps completed 80-hour ‘spike’ clearing invasive salt cedar at Big Bend Conservation Area. The Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program (LCR MSCP) recently partnered with the Nevada Conservation Corps, based in Las Vegas, to remove invasive salt cedar at Big Bend Conservation Area, near Laughlin for fuels reduction to protect the nearby area from fire risks.
