Version 1.1 of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Open Government Plan fulfills several requirements not met by the first version of the plan published on April 7, 2010, and exceeds some of the requirements by updating its Strategic Plan and all supporting activities with specific mandates to embed openness in its work processes and mission. Notably, Version 1.1 of the plan includes achievable milestones of linchpin activities that the public can use to hold the agency accountable.

Version 1.1 of SSA’s Open Government Plan includes a number of initiatives that embody the spirit of the directive. For example, SSA has pledged to provide statistical tables of underlying data for public use for independent statistical analysis and mash-ups. In addition, it is further reaching out to the public, advocacy groups, subscribers, other agencies, and internally by including feedback loops to accept corrections to data and disseminate notices of new information, changes, and corrections, with adequate context to make the information usable.
