Father's Day in the Park in Nevada, Missouri

Three young people caught their first fish ever.

It was a celebration of fatherhood sponsored by the Nevada, Missouri Housing Authority. The celebration was held at Walton Park. It included fishing, train rides, a dual aqua slide, an obstacle course, and boat rides in the search and rescue boat on Walton Lake. Children also played on the play equipment in the park. Some just strolled along the walking trail through the park.

It all provided a wonderful day outdoors for all at the Nevada, Missouri first annual Father's Day celebration. Those attending were also treated to a hot dog and chips. Plenty of cold water was distributed to everyone on what turned out to be a very hot afternoon in June at Walton Park!

Gift bags were presented to all fathers in attendance. That included a letter from the Mayor, information regarding housing options, facilities and services in the community for families.

Missouri Department of Conservation Agent Pennington checked out fishing poles. Three children were excited when they caught their first fish ever.

Overall, the event was a great success and Nevada Housing Authority Executive Director Carol Branham said she was already looking forward to an even better event next year with more community partners participating.

The event was very well attended. It was open to all fathers in the community and not only public housing resident fathers. This was as a result of the HUD Public Housing Father's Day Initiative solicited to all public housing authorities.
