Security tips:
  • Never let anyone see or hear your account number, user ID, password, or PIN.
  • Never respond to an e-mail asking for any of your identifiers.
  • Never provide your identifiers online when using a computer other than your own home or office machine unless you know it is secure.
  • Log out of the TSP website and close your Internet browser after you complete transactions in My Account.
  • Do not perform financial transactions on public computers.
  • Use up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your home and office computers.
Access to password and PIN:
Your TSP Web password and ThriftLine PIN are encrypted in the TSP system and are not accessible to Participant Service Representatives. For security reasons, the TSP will only mail your password or PIN to your address of record. The TSP will not send either through e-mail.

The TSP takes many steps to keep your account secure. It is important that you do your part to protect your account information. Do not reveal it to anyone or store it where anyone can find it.

Your TSP Account Number

 

The TSP provides you with a 13-digit account number that you must use to identify your account. Use this number when accessing your account on the website, when calling the ThriftLine, or when completing TSP forms.

Like a bank account number, your TSP account number cannot be changed.

If you have both a civilian and a uniformed services account, the same account number is used to identify both accounts.

If you forget your account number, you can use the TSP website or the ThriftLine to request to have it mailed to you. You can also find your account number on your quarterly and annual participant statements.

Your User ID

 

If you'd like to access your account without having to always remember your 13-digit account number, you can create a user ID to use instead. To do so, you will first have to log into My Account using your TSP account number and Web password. Then you will have the option of creating your user ID. You can change your user ID whenever you wish.

If you have both a civilian and a uniformed services account, you may set up and use the same user ID for both accounts.

If you forget your user ID, you can access your account with your TSP account number and Web password. Be aware that you cannot use your user ID on the ThriftLine.

Your TSP Web Password

 

As soon as your account is established, the TSP mails you an 8-digit Web password to use with your TSP account number (or user ID) when you log into the My Account section of the website or when contacting the TSP.

You can change your password at any time, but you must first enter your TSP account number or user ID and your existing password.

If you have both a civilian and a uniformed services account, you may set up and use the same password for both accounts.

If you forget your Web password, you can request a new one on the website or by contacting the TSP. It will be mailed to you.

Your ThriftLine Personal Identification Number (PIN)

 

As soon as your account is established, the TSP mails you a 4-digit PIN to use with your TSP account number to access account information and perform certain transactions on the ThriftLine.

You can change your PIN at any time. To do so, call the ThriftLine and enter your TSP account number and existing PIN. Then follow the directions to change your PIN.

If you forget your PIN, you can request a new one on the ThriftLine or by contacting the TSP. It will be mailed to you.

Your ThriftLine PIN is not the same as the PINs for other agency or service systems (e.g., Employee Express, PostalEASE, myPay).
