Col. Thomas L. Gibson is the Commander, 10th Air Base Wing, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. He commands more than 3,000 military, civilian and contractor personnel who conduct base-level activities for the entire installation, including security, civil engineering, communications, logistics, finance, contracting, chaplaincy, legal, lodging, medical, military and civilian personnel and force support programs, for a community of 4,000 cadets and a total military community of more than 25,000 personnel. He oversees a $150 million annual operating budget and serves as Crisis Action Team Commander during all installation contingency operations.
Colonel Gibson received his commission through the Academy in 1988. He has served as an instructor pilot for the T-37 Tweet, C-5 Galaxy, TG-7A glider and KC-135 Stratotanker. His command assignments include the 621st Air Mobility Operations Squadron at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., and the 71st Mission Support Group at Vance Air Force Base, Okla. His staff assignments include aide-de-camp to the Academy superintendent, director of the Commander's Action Group for Air Combat Command and senior executive assistant to the Joint Chiefs of Staff's logistics director.
He has flown in support of numerous humanitarian and combat operations, including Restore Hope, Restore Democracy and Allied Force. He was Deputy Director of the Air Mobility Division in the Combined Air and Space Operations Center in Southwest Asia in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
