The Council was established on 01 May 2009 under the provisions detailed in Army Regulation 600-8-7. The Council is under the supervision of the BMC Garmisch, Garrison Manager and operates as a sub-council of the U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr Retiree Council.
The purpose of the Council is to:
Represent the 300+ United States Military retirees and their surviving spouses within the community.
Provide the retirees and surviving spouses with the opportunity to participate in programs where the focus is on areas of interest to the retiree community.
Promote and encourage information sharing in the areas of health care, benefits and activities.
Provide the BMC Garmisch, Manager with insight into the problems, concerns and needs of the Garmisch retiree community.
Provide a means for the exchange of professional and technical knowledge with the retiree community and assist the retiree community.
How we do this:
Quarterly Council meetings, outreach events like the DFAS visit, Community fair information table and the Grafenwoehr Retiree Appreciation Day trip. We also mail our newsletter to everyone in our database, post current information to our “RETIREE CORNER” bulletin board by the Garmisch Commissary and maintain a BMC Garmisch Retiree Council Facebook page.
Membership:
Membership on the Council is voluntary and open to all United States Military retirees and surviving spouses of United States military retirees in the Garmisch Military Community regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, or mental or physical handicap.
