NEW DESIGNATION OF "ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND FIREARMS" DIVISION

Manufacturers of tobacco products and cigarette papers and tubes, and proprietors of export warehouses:

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division has for many years been responsible for the administration and enforcement of the National Firearms and Federal Firearms Acts. Recently, the firearms responsibilities of the Division have been significantly increased, by the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act and by the Gun Control Act, enacted in 1968. In recognition of these increased responsibilities, the Division has been designated "Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Division." Accordingly, each Assistant Regional Commissioner, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax, has been designated "Assistant Regional Commissioner, Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms." There is, of course, no practical effect in our relationships with you, since the officials with whom you have contact and their responsibilities in the tobacco tax area are unchanged.
