USE OF POTTER FLOW METERS

Brewers and others concerned:

Purpose. This circular is issued to inform you that a Revenue Procedure has been approved which authorizes the unrestricted use by brewers of the Potter Flow Meter, manufactured by the Potter Aeronautical Corporation, Union, New Jersey. The Revenue Procedure will be published in the Internal Revenue Bulletin in due course.

Background. Revenue Procedure 58-22 (C.B. 1958-2, 1140), and Industry Circular No. 58-25, dated September 3, 1958, in announcing the approval of the Potter Flow Meter for measuring beer, informed brewers and others concerned that such meters were approved for use in measuring beer transferred to bottling tanks only. Approval for use in racker lines and in direct bottling lines was withheld pending further evaluation of the performance of the meter. This evaluation has now been made.

Use of Potter Flow Meters. The Potter Flow Meter is now approved for unrestricted use in measuring beer in breweries.

Inquiries. Inquiries regarding this industry circular should refer to its number and should be addressed to the office of your Assistant Regional Commissioner (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax).
