Fatherhood Buzz Tips for Parents
How much is too much? Kids are smaller than adults and should eat smaller portions. Portions should be about the size of the back of a fist—a child’s fist for a child’s portion.
Point out the printed words in your home and other places you take your child such as the grocery store. Spend as much time listening to your child as you do talking.
When reading together discuss new words! For example, "This big house is called a palace. Who do you think lives in a palace?”
Why is the grass green? Spend some time investigating the questions your kids have by going online or to your local library together to find the answers!
Give children toys that encourage physical activity like balls, kites, and jump ropes. Consider getting yourself one too, then do the activity together!
Connecting in the Community
Job clubs play an important function in helping unemployed community members find a new job and manage the challenges associated with unemployment. The Department of Labor Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships website features information on how to start or sustain a job club, connect to the local public workforce system, network with other job club coordinators, and share experiences and best practices.
