California National Guard Behavioral Health Office Home

The California National Guard maintains a comprehensive Joint Behavioral Health Office for Soldiers, Airmen and their families. We care about your psychological and emotional well-being and take proactive measures to assist both service members and their families in appropriately resourcing your behavioral health concerns.

The Joint Behavioral Health Office maintains full-time operations at JFHQ in Sacramento.

We also maintain a full time clinician in the Northern, Central, and Southern California areas, and in the four Air Wings, to provide crisis intervention services, resources and support services to soldiers, airmen, family members, and commanders on a 24 hour basis.

Behavioral Health Resources -  The Behavioral Health Service provides educational materials and training addressing various behavioral health topics to include PTSD, TBI, and Depression among others. We author a quarterly article to the California National Guard's monthly newsletter, The Grizzly and we maintain a growing supply of resources and information papers. Please contact us if you would like assistance in providing resources or training for you or your unit!Suicide Prevention Poster - Never Let Your Buddy Fight Alone - Be Willing to Listen, Not all Wounds are Visible

Behavioral Health Resources for Commanders-  Regulatory guidance, forms and information for Commanders concerning the behavioral health of their units to include the Command Directed Mental Health evaluation process.

Crisis Intervention, Counseling and Referral Services –  The Behavioral Health Service is not a clinic. The size of our state precludes us from offering individual/group therapeutic treatment over the longer term. We maintain the most current regulatory guidance and information regarding a variety clinical and counseling services available for service members and their families. We can assist in connecting you with FREE government based clinical services, to include psychological evaluations, counseling services as well as FREE private civilian practitioners.  Please contact us for confidential information regarding clinical or counseling services.  We can help connect you with people and resources that can make a lifelong difference!

Behavioral Health Outreach Liaison Program - This new pilot program provides the California National Guard with additional clinical staff to resource soldiers needing comprehensive mental health services to mental health offices/locations in their county of residence. These resources are assigned by region to both northern and southern California.

Tri West Embed Behavioral Health Pilot Program – The California National Guard is engaged in a pilot program hosted by Tri West Healthcare Alliance. The program places contracted Behavioral Health professionals directly in units of the CNG on the drill weekend and during selected training cycles. Currently, we have providers in 38 armories across the state. These providers participate in all IDT unit level training and serve as an immediate onsite behavioral health asset to the commander and unit. This Pilot program was recently extended through 2010.

Substance Abuse Rehab Assistance - As part of the CA National Guard ongoing commitment to assist our Soldiers and Airman in obtaning resources for all their needs, there is a Joint Substance Abuse Coordinator available to provide resources for substance abuse related issues/concerns.  To contact the Joint Substance Abuse Coordinator you can call (877)479-0427 or email NGCASUBSTANCEABUSE@ng.army.mil.

Combat Stress Team –  The Combat Stress Team provides valuable training, screening, counseling, and intervention for units across the state. We offer complete deployment cycle services beginning at pre-mobilization training/SRP, Peer-to-Peer training conducted at MOB sites throughout the country, and coordinating with Yellow Ribbon services at home station upon re- deployment.
