Scranton, PA – United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced today that the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) arrested Namer Yousef Al Daoud in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with the assistance of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

Al Daoud was being sought for a murder that occurred on June 2, 1992 in the Kingdom of Jordan. It is alleged that Al Daoud shot and killed his sister, then escaped apprehension. On May 18, 1994, an arrest warrant was issued by the High Criminal Court in Jordan, charging Al Daoud with Intentional Murder. The maximum possible penalty in Jordan for this offense is death.

The United States Marshals Service is the primary agency within the federal government responsible for locating and apprehending fugitives who are wanted by foreign countries and who have been identified and located in the United States.

In August 2008, an Interpol Red Notice was issued for Al Daoud’s arrest. This Notice was requested by the Kingdom of Jordan. It was circulated worldwide to all member countries of Interpol.

The U.S. Marshals Service’s New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force (NY/NJ RFTF) were investigating the whereabouts of Al Daoud, when information was developed that he may be in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. An investigative lead was forwarded to USMS personnel based in Scranton.

On June 13, Marshals Service personnel discreetly located Al Daoud in the Wilkes-Barre area. In the early afternoon hours, Deputy U.S. Marshals, assisted by members of the USMS Middle District of Pennsylvania (M/PA) Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers, located and arrested Al Daoud in the 1100 block of South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre. The foreign fugitive was taken into custody without incident.

Al Daoud, 44-years old, was turned over to the custody of ICE. He will be processed and held, pending further investigation and a hearing before an Immigration Judge.

U.S. Marshals were assisted by personnel from the Wilkes-Barre Police Department. This agency is a participating member of the USMS M/PA Fugitive Task Force.

The concept of all USMS-led fugitive task forces is to seek out and arrest the nation’s most dangerous offenders.
