Oakland Police and U.S. Marshals Conduct Warrant Operation

Oakland, CA – Beginning on Monday, May 7, 2012, the Oakland Police Department and the United States Marshals Service, together with several federal and state law enforcement partners, conducted a three-day warrant service operation. The goal of the operation was to clear as many outstanding and high-priority warrants being held by the Oakland Police Department.

Throughout the operation, approximately eight teams led by Oakland Police Officers and Deputy US Marshals combed the city in an effort to serve the warrants. The operation targeted fugitives from across the spectrum, including fugitives wanted for parole and probation violations, burglary, robbery, assault, and murder.

During the course of the mission, hundreds of attempts were made by the teams to locate wanted fugitives. The operation resulted in 32 arrests, as well as the confiscation of two assault rifles, one homemade “zip gun,” and one once of methamphetamine. Included in the arrests was one fugitive wanted for homicide.

  • Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF)
  • High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA)

The U.S. Marshals Service is the primary federal agency charged with conducting fugitive investigations throughout the United States. The U.S. Marshals Service regularly works in concert with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to seek out and arrest violent fugitives and sex offenders, and has established task forces throughout the nation to facilitate the apprehension of fugitives.
