U.S. Marshals Participate in Fallen Officer Memorial Run

Vallejo, CA – On Saturday, December 17, 2011, Deputies from the Northern District of California participated in a memorial run to benefit the Officer James Capoot Family Trust. The two-mile charity event was attended by many members of the Vallejo community, as well as law enforcement from around the bay area.

Officer James Capoot was shot and killed on November 17, 2011, during a pursuit of a bank robbery suspect following a high-speed chase. Officer Capoot pursued the suspect vehicle through a residential area, where he executed a PIT maneuver and disabled the suspects’ vehicle. He then pursued the suspect on foot. While in the backyard of a residence, he was shot several times in the back. The suspect was arrested at the scene shortly thereafter.

Officer Capoot was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He had served the Vallejo Police Department for 19 years and had previously served with the California Highway Patrol for two years. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
