U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect After Barricade

Columbus, OH – U.S. Marshal Cathy Jones of the Southern District of Ohio announces the arrest of Darrian Cordell. The 21 year old Cordell was wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department for Felony Possession of Drugs, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Improper Handling of a Firearm.

On July 22, 2011, the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), received information that Cordell was staying at a home on the east side of Columbus, Ohio and was potentially armed. SOFAST proceeded to the 2800 block of Astor Avenue in Columbus. Cordell did not answer the door when SOFAST officers announced their presence so the Columbus Division of Police SWAT team was contacted and quickly responded. After a 2 hour long barricade situation, Cordell surrendered safely and was arrested. Cordell will be held at a local jail while awaiting a court date in Franklin County.

Prior to his apprehension, Cordell was profiled on a local television news program as being one of the Columbus U.S. Marshals “most wanted” fugitives and also appeared on local Clear Channel billboards. Cordell has a previous arrest record for Firearm and Drug offenses.

Marshal Jones stated, “The cooperation of law enforcement from the Columbus Division of Police SWAT unit greatly assisted the U.S. Marshal’s Service in capturing this extremely dangerous fugitive. Their diligence and swift action helped bring this dangerous fugitive to justice.”

Columbus SOFAST is a fugitive focused, United States Marshals Service led task force consisting of local, state, and federal authorities including the Franklin County Sheriffs, Delaware County Sheriffs, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Columbus Police Department, Columbus Division of Fire, Worthington Police Department, Reynoldsburg Police Department, South Bloomfield Police Department, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, Grove City Police Department, United States Department of Agriculture, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the United States Attorney’s Office.
