Eastern Louisiana Participates in 2011 Torch Run

United States Marshal Genny May, Eastern District of Louisiana, proudly announced that on May 19th District Deputy Marshals and Task Force Officers participated in the 2011 Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run. The group completed a six mile leg of the Torch Run in Jefferson Parish.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is an international series of torch relays run by law enforcement officers. The relays precede each state or nation’s Special Olympics Summer Games. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the Special Olympics’ largest annual fundraising and public awareness campaign. This year the Torch Run celebrated its 28th year.

Over 2,000 officers carried the “Flame of Hope” throughout Louisiana. Many officers work year-round conducting other fundraising activities. Special Olympics Louisiana offers year-round programs for 13,500 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in all 64 parishes, with the help of 12,000 volunteers.
