Florida Sex Offender Found Hiding in Bath Tub

Wellston, OH – On May 7, 2011, leads came in from Orlando, Florida to the United States Marshals in Southern Ohio concerning the possible whereabouts of a wanted non-compliant sex offender.  The sex offender, Jaime Lebel (aka Jamie Lebel), age 41, a sex offender who in 2001, pled guilty to two counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation of a minor and served six years in prison and additional time in jail for probation violation, had fled Florida in violation of his registration requirements and was believed to be hiding out in Southern Ohio.

On April 2, 2011, Lebel was released from incarceration and registered at a fictitious address in Florida.   Investigators developed information that Lebel had fled Florida knowing he was in violation of his sex offender registration requirements.

Investigators from the United States Marshals Service immediately began an investigation in Southern Ohio and were able to  pinpoint a location in Wellston, Ohio, where they believed Lebel may be hiding.

Deputy United States Marshals, assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office traveled to a home in Wellston, Ohio, and after entering the residence located Lebel attempting to hide in a bath tub behind a shower curtain.

Lebel was arrested and transported to Columbus, Ohio, to face federal charges of violating the Adam Walsh Act, a law that makes it a federal offense for convicted sex offenders who travel from state to state and fail to register as required.
