Transmission System Projects

The following transmission line projects are currently being carried out by TVA.

Alabama

Helicon
TVA has announced a preferred route for about six and half miles of transmission line to power Cullman Electric Cooperative’s new substation in Arley, Alabama, which will relieve equipment that is nearing overload and reduce power outages.

Huntsville
TVA has announced a preferred route for about thirteen and half miles of transmission line to power Huntsville Utilities’ expanded substation and provide continued reliable power to the growing area.

Georgia

Mt. Vernon Road
TVA is considering building a transmission line on existing right-of-way, which would power North Georgia EMC's new substation on Mt. Vernon Road in Ringgold, Georgia. The additional transmission equipment is needed due to electrical load growth in area.

Kentucky

Burkesville
TVA is considering improvements to the transmission system in the Burkesville, Kentucky area. The improvements will replace aging electrical equipment and help provide reliable power to the Burkesville area.

Franklin
TVA is considering building a new transmission line to power Warren RECC’s proposed substation in East Franklin. The new facilities are needed to relieve overloading of existing equipment and provide continued reliable electric service to the growing area.

Oak Grove, Kentucky
TVA is considering improvements to the transmission system near Oak Grove, Kentucky, located south of Hopkinsville, between Fort Campbell and Pembroke, Kentucky. The improvements will provide continued reliable power to the area.

Mississippi

Bruce
TVA proposes to build about 4.3 miles of transmission line to power Pontotoc EPA’s proposed Southwest Bruce Substation. The line and substation are needed to reduce outages and improve the reliability of power to the area by providing another source of power.  Without transmission system upgrades, the area will experience power supply disruptions.

New Hope
TVA has announced a proposed route for about 2.4 miles of new transmission line that would power 4-County EPA's proposed new Lake Lowndes substation, needed to relieve overloaded equipment and provide a reliable source of power to the growing area.

Tupelo
TVA proposes to build 12-15 miles of transmission line in Union and Lee Counties, Mississippi to relieve possible overloading on existing lines and improve electric reliability in the area.

Tennessee

Bells
TVA is considering improvements to the transmission system in the Alamo-Bells, Tennessee area.  The improvements will replace aging electrical equipment and provide reliable power to industry in the Bells area.

Burlison
TVA is considering improvements to the transmission system that would relieve overloaded equipment and provide reliable power to Southwest Tennessee EMC’s customers in the Burlison, Tennessee area.

Byrdstown
TVA is considering building a new transmission line that would improving voltage and outage issues to the Byrdstown area by providing a reliable source of power to Volunteer Energy Cooperative’s new substation.

Hillsboro
TVA is considering building a transmission line that would power Duck River EMC's new substation in Hillsboro, Tennessee, needed to reduce electric service interruptions and provide reliable electric service to the area.

Knox County
TVA is considering building two new transmission lines and a switching station that would relieve overloaded equipment and provide additional power to the East Knox County area.

Putnam and Cumberland Counties
Either a 500 kV source or extensive upgrades to existing 161 kV facilities will be required in the Putnam County and Cumberland County area by 2016 to meet anticipated power loads.

Selmer – Adamsville
TVA is considering improvements to the transmission system in the Selmer-Adamsville area. The proposed project includes a new switching station and transmission line.

Sumner County
TVA has identified a preferred route for a new transmission line that would strengthen the transmission system in Sumner County and meet the growing demand for power in the area.

Unionville
TVA has identified a preferred route for a new transmission line that would improve power reliability by providing an additional source of power to the growing area.
