Facilities Management & Physical Security

Our locations occupy over 29 million square feet of office space nationwide. To manage that space efficiently we depend on employees with a variety of expertise and technical specialties. We use the latest monitoring and electronic security systems along with cutting-edge smart card systems to control facilities access points.

The Office of Facilities and Supply Management runs our facilities, supplies, and logistics programs. This office also oversees national policies to create and maintain efficiently designed facilities and safe work environments for our employees and visitors.

In the Physical Security field, the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness oversees building and protective security, occupant emergency, emergency preparedness, and continuity of operations programs. This team preserves the safe work environments we need for employees and visitors so we can continue our world class service to the public.

The majority of jobs in these fields are located in either the Office of Facilities and Supply Management or the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness. Both offices are located at the Headquarters campus in Baltimore, Maryland.

Other employees who may have some Facilities Management or Physical Security responsibilities serve at office sites across the country.

Generally, we look for candidates with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent of work experience in Facilities Management and Physical Security fields. Entry-level positions begin at GS-7 and GS-9 levels. New employees receive both on-the-job and classroom training. Occasionally we also fill professional positions at the GS-11, GS-12 or GS-13 level. Physical Security

Physical Security Specialists are responsible for agency preparedness to carry out essential functions in the event of a national emergency.

Safety & Occupational Health

Industrial Hygienists, and Safety and Occupational Health Specialists identify and resolve environmental and safety hazards in the workplace. They ensure that our facilities are safe for occupancy.

Architects

Architects focus on methods, techniques, and applications to design, construct, and improve our buildings.

Supply & Inventory

Supply Specialists and Inventory Management Specialists manage agency warehouse operations, and provide supply services and distribution.

Engineers

Mechanical, Industrial, and Electrical Engineers support our team with comprehensive knowledge of advanced engineering, scientific, and mathematical principles.

We typically look for candidates with any of the following skills and/or work experience:

Industrial Hygienist and Safety and Occupational Health experience and/or coursework

Physical Security-related work experience and/or coursework

Architectural work experience or coursework focused on methods, techniques and applications to building design

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong analytical skills with demonstrated attention to detail

Facilities Management-related work experience and/or coursework

Supplies and logistics management skills

Compensation levels for our Facilities Management and Physical Security positions are competitive with private industry. Our compensation packages recognize the skills you have gained through both work experience and academic accomplishments.

Entry-level positions begin at the GS-7 and GS-9 levels. Occasionally we hire for professional positions at the GS-11, GS-12, or GS-13 level.
