Demonstrating the Platform for Policing Research
The policing platform demonstration project (also called a feasibility study or field test) will assess the practicability and value of having national longitudinal information about policing performance.
Following are components of the demonstration project.
- Collect data about officers through their "life course" (from their first day at the training academy until they leave the force). Read more about recruits.
- Collect data on supervisors from the first day of the sergeants' training and periodically during the following 18 months. Read more about supervisors.
- Define and measure key dimensions of agencies' performance and establish benchmarks to assess excellence. Read more about the life course of organizations.
- Test the project's ability to introduce evidence-based training innovations and quickly generate results. Read more about innovative training.
- Examine and test innovative methods for measuring police performance.
Small, medium and large agencies from urban and rural areas of the nation are involved.
