Reuter cites U.S. power

FRANKFURT — The vast power America is generating for Western defense and mobilization is not clearly recognized by most Europeans, Berlin Mayor Ernst Reuter declared today on his return to Germany from a 12-day visit to the U.S.
Arriving at Rhine-Main Airport, Reuter was full of praise for "American strength which nobody here could have anticipated six months ago."
He said U.S. leaders had assured him of continued U.S. economic aid for West Berlin, and that Berlin's position as a bastion of democracy against communism was "fully understood."
Reuter was invited to the U.S. by "Americans for Democratic Action." Beside New York and Washington, he visited Detroit, Milwaukee, and Chicago.
Among U.S. leaders he met were President Truman, Secretary of Defense George C. Marshall, Gen Lucius D. Clay, ECA Chief William C. Foster, and Economic Mobilizer Charles Wilson.
Reuter was scheduled to go by car later today to Bonn.
