Rep. Fincher On Army Corps of Engineers Decision To Open Birds Point Floodway

Washington, DC – Following the Army Corps of Engineers decision last night to artificially open the Birds Point levee and use the floodway in order to prevent a more catastrophic event, Congressman Stephen Fincher (R-Frog Jump) issued the following statement: “The decision to open the levee at Birds Point was indeed a difficult one in which I ultimately hoped could be avoided. I commend Major General Walsh for his leadership and decisive action in attempt to avoid a more catastrophic event. I will continue to monitor the situation in all of communities along the Mississippi and do everything I can to ensure the people of Tennessee continue to receive the help and support needed.”

Rep. Fincher Calls On Army Corps of Engineers To Take Every Needed Action To Protect Tennesseans

Frog Jump, TN - Following Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s decision to file a temporary restraining order preventing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from artificially crevassing the Birds Point levee and using that floodway in the event of high floodwaters, Congressman Fincher and Senators Corker and Alexander sent a letter to Army Corps of Engineers Major General Michael Walsh urging him to make every effort possible to protect the entirety of the Mississippi River Valley.

High Water in the Mississippi River **Updated**

Forecast indicates that we will move into flood stage at Georgetown and Clarendon (AR) on the White River. Phase I and Phase II stages at these locations will not be reached during the five day forecast. Lower Mississippi River at Memphis (TN) will move into Phase I between Thursday and Friday. Helena (AR) will move into flood stage on Thursday and Phase I on Friday.
