Federal Agency Partnerships
In May 2010, President Obama directed the National Security Staff (NSS) to develop an enduring, government-wide approach to supporting our military families. The NSS convened the Military Family Interagency Policy Committee (IPC), which included representatives from every cabinet agency, to identify and address the most pressing military family issues.
Watch First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden as they announced the initiative and surprised military families, veterans and volunteers.
Presidential Study Directive-9 (PSD-9) is the culmination of the Military Family IPC’s findings, and outlines agency commitments to enhance support to our military families.
In a ceremony at the White House on January 25, 2011, the President, joined by Senior officials from agencies and organizations across the government, unveiled this new, whole-of-government approach to military family support.

Department of Veterans Affairs, Meeting America’s Commitment to Veterans and Military Families The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has made the care and support of military families one of our highest priorities. The United States Department of Agriculture: Military and Veterans Programs The Department of Agriculture is committed to encouraging the health development of military children. Small Business Administration Veterans and Military Families The U. S. Small Business Administration continues to expand their offerings to Veterans and Military Families. Resources the SBA provides includes creating Veteran Business Out Centers and establishing new Entrepreneurship Boot Camp programs specifically for women veterans and for Reserve Component members and their immediate families. |

U.S. Social Security Administration Disability Benefits for Wounded Warriors Military service members can receive expedited processing of disability claims from Social Security. Benefits available through Social Security are different than those from the Department of Veterans Affairs and require a separate application. The expedited process is used for military service members who become disabled while on active military service on or after October 1, 2001, regardless of where the disability occurs. |

National Endowment for the Arts The National Endowment for the Arts has partnered with Blue Star Families and more than 1,000 museums in all 50 states to launch Blue Star Museums. These museums nationwide will offer free admission to military personnel and their families from Memorial Day, May 30, 2011, through Labor Day, September 5, 2011. |

U.S. Department of Interior: Military Families and Wounded Warriors Secretary Salazar had established “Support of Military Families and Veterans” as a high-priority component of the goals set for the Department of the Interior. DoI’s plan includes support of military families as an integral part of the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative, support of young veterans and children through Interior youth programs, and in the employment of veterans. |
