Answer to Your Question

How can I participate in Health IT policy-making?

There are two committees, under the auspices of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), that are charged with making recommendations to the National Coordinator for Health IT.

Membership for both the committees and their respective workgroups is currently at capacity. However, if you wish to send the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) your resume and indicate which Committee or Workgroup interests you, ONC will keep your information on file for consideration as membership opportunities become available.

Members of the public are invited to participate in the FACA public conference calls and meetings.

Also, citizens can take part in the policy-making process by submitting comments during the federal rule-making process, in particularly, individuals can submit public comments during the 60-day comment period for Notice of Proposed Rule Makings (NPRM) issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Federal Register publishes all NPRMs.
