Huge Seizure of Counterfeit Cell Phones at JFK Airport

Jamaica, N.Y. - An inspection by CBP officers at New York's JFK International Airport in January, led to an investigation that resulted in the arrest of three men and the seizure of nearly $2 million in counterfeit cell phones. The investigation, dubbed "Operation: Long Distance Haul" was initiated after the officers discovered a shipment of cell phones shipped loose in cardboard boxes with no packaging. (more)

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Announces IPR Interim Final Rule

Washington - U.S. Customs and Border Protection today published in the Federal Register an Intellectual Property Rights Interim Final Rule (IFR) which takes effect immediately upon publication. CBP Bags Counterfeit Purses in Seattle

Seattle-U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and import specialists seized a shipment of 25,822 purses on March 13, arriving in an ocean container from China. More than 8,500 of the purses were seized in violation of various counterfeit trademarks including: Louis Vuitton, North Face, Gucci, Fendi, Burberry and Coach. (more)

Value of CBP, ICE Seizures of Counterfeit Goods Rises 27%

Washington - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced today it had seized counterfeit or pirated merchandize worth approximately $200 million in domestic value for fiscal year (FY) 2007. This year's activities continue a significant upward trend in the value of seizures, exceeding the value of last year's by 27 percent. (more)
